George Eugene Dunck Jr.

1945 - 2021

Born January 18, 1945 in Napa, California, George known as Gene, left this world on April 28, 2021, due to complications from a heart attack. He was 76 years old.

Gene spent his early years in Napa, California where he had family and many close friends. Together with them he would enjoy fishing, hiking, swimming, waterskiing, camping, and playing many games together. His house was where the boys "hung out."

Although Gene had several occupations in his life, he was proudest of his thirty seven and three quarter years' work in Telecommunications. He started at age nineteen with Western Electric, which later evolved to AT&T and Lucent Technologies. Whenever he watched an old movie, Gene would point out the Western Electric symbol and feel pride in his work with them.

The spirit of teamwork was the essence of his success. While steadily continuing his pursuits, Gene traveled throughout his career. His temporary and permanent transfers took him from Napa to Staten Island, to Austin, to Albuquerque, to San Francisco, to Salinas, to New York City, to Chicago, and to St. Louis. Along the way he developed many friendships, and those friends became family to him. In 2014 he and his wife returned to California, bought a home in Concow where they planned to retire on their one plus acre property in the finest natural beauty California could offer. Unfortunately, the three-bedroom three bath cedar home burned down in the Camp Fire November 8th, 2018. He, with his wife, escaped death on that day and fortunately had insurance to relocate to his current property in the Lake Shastina section of Weed, California. Gene loved having an amazing view of Mt. Shasta in his backyard filled with wildlife including quail, doves, hawks, deer, raccoons, bear, and mountain lions.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Ginny Burr; daughter Christina East (Shawn) and son Jeremy Dunck, both children from his first wife Carol Barker Martens (Gary); Mother Betty Harris; brother John Harris Jr. (Jennifer); nephew John Harris; niece Elizabeth Spurr; several cousins; sisters and brothers in law; grandchildren; great nieces and nephews and many very dear friends.

Isaiah 40:31 "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Last saw Gene about 1959 when we were classmates at Ridgview and I lived on Almandera ct which was his neighborhood.  He welcomed me for the few months we lived there before my sketchy itinerant family moved on.
