In Memory

John Dunn

John Dunn

Today my brother John Dunn would have been 80 years old. He passed away on December 22, 2024. I hadn’t seen him for several years, and for the last year he wasn’t himself and couldn’t really carry on a phone conversation. But I still miss him. Not so much for recent times, but for times past when we were younger. He was always my protector, my big brother, my friend. My mom said that when she was pregnant with me, John insisted that he wanted a baby sister and that her name should be Kathy. And so it was! He was always there for me and I always felt so loved by him. Of course, he did his share of big brother “teasing” and “harassing” but it was always just in fun. He was popular in school and had a large group of friends, many whom I had crushes on! It wasn’t until years later that I found out that he had told his friends “hands off” and to stay away from me! He married and gave me two wonderful nieces. He was drafted into the Army in 1967 and served his time in Viet Nam. He carried the scars of war, and it deeply affected him. I believe his experiences there altered his life patterns forever. I post this as a tribute to him and to our lives once shared, knowing that my life will never be the same now that he’s gone. I love you, Johnnie!
