Gus Amador Obituary

Gustavo (Gus) Amador

April 4, 1944 - June 29, 2023

NAPA, CA - Gus Amador peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by the love of his family after battling chronic health issues for several years.

Gus was born on April 4, 1944, in Shafter, California, to Gustavo and Emily Amador. He was raised in Napa along with his five sisters and one brother. Gus attended local schools and graduated from Napa High School in the class of 1963. During his high school years, Gus worked diligently as a meat cutter and, after graduation, he quickly rose to become a successful entrepreneur in the meat industry at Pueblo Market, guided by his dear friend and mentor, Tom Thompson. It was during this time that Gus started his own family, marrying Kathy Pescio of Napa, and together they had a son named Andrew Amador.

After his first marriage ended, Gus met Virgina Van Dervort, and they married on November 15, 2003. Throughout the years, Gus and Virginia enjoyed traveling on vacations with their family and grandchildren. They cherished time at the Amador ranch in Pope Valley, where they tended to their chickens and garden. They loved to entertain and host gatherings for friends and family. Gus was a passionate fisherman, hunter, and lover of the outdoors. Each year, he and his son Andy organized a memorable hunt and brunch to celebrate the opening day of dove season in Pope Valley, an event eagerly anticipated by their friends and family.

Gus possessed a remarkable ability to bring joy and a smile to everyone he encountered. His infectious spirit, overflowing love for life, and genuine care made each person he met feel cherished and special.

Gus is survived by his wife, Virginia; son Andy Amador (wife Marissa), step-daughter Denise Renteria (husband Oscar), step-son Frank Van Dervort; grandchildren Todd Amador (wife Dani), Isabel Amador, Haley Amador, Matthew Amador, Isabella Renteria, Mia Renteria, Gabriella Renteria, Preston Van Dervort, Jordyn Van Dervort; great grandsons Andy & Jack Amador ; his sisters Margaret Warner (Warren), Hope Duden, Linda Amador, Rachel Zaragoza (Nacho), Mark Amador, Annette Rasmusen (Kent).

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors at the hospital, as well as the compassionate staff at DaVita, for their exceptional care and unwavering support given to Gus.

I am sincerely sad for losing him. We are getting to that point but it is still hard to see these people gone!
