Butch was one of the Carneros gang. He and his family actually lived on Duhig Road but he attended the Carneros Elementary School with me. Later he and his family moved into town onto Big Ranch Road. I lost touch with him until high school. Although I don't remember him much then. Later years I'd run into his sister, Karen. Nice guy!

I seem to be following Marcy's lead and running into old friends with her. Marcy and Butch were Carneros kids along with me and only a handful of others---it was a small class. Butch and I were pretty tight in the early years, did a lot of hiking and a little fishing in the creeks by our homes. His Dad and mine had been friends when they were kids, a lot of mutual respect between the families. I remember double and tripple daring adventures with Butch, him often getting the upper hand. Didn't talk much after elementary school. I saw him cruising around, often over by A&W. He ran with the hair hats and I had gone with the skin heads so we fell out (you guys rememeber that craziness--our brand of West Side Story). But we did see eah other at one of the all-60s fairground reunions and recaptured for a good moment those old times. Hair style or lack of it no longer mattering.

That was a funny story. The reference to the "hair hats" and "skin heads" made me laugh. I used that term not too long ago "hair hats" and wondered how I could have remembered that term. But it was real for sure!

Butch and I met at Salvador Elementary School around the 5th grade. Butch got his driver's license on his 16th birthday on a Friday. He picked me up in his mom's '56 Plymouth station wagon, we put $1.50 worth of gas in the tank and cruised between the Wright Spot, the Uptown Theater and Kenny's drive in all night waiting for the movies to get out so the girls could see us cruising. Like Mike, we drifted apart over the years but we did work together for a short time at Basalt Rock. Butch was a real artist when operating heavy equipment.

Butch was a great friend in High School! So sad to hear he's no longer with us!
