John was a really nice quite guy. He was an old Carneros friend who lived on Cuttings Wharf Road. If I remember right he was in 4-H with my brother and I.

John was 0ne of the first people who befriended me when i moved to Napa in 1959.  He definately had his own drummer.  He may have been in 4 H, but he definately was not a farm boy.  John was straight up no engagaing in any risky business like most of the rest of us.  he joined the National Guard right out of High School.  he was the best recruiter they ever had.  he was forever trying to get every one he knew to join, touting all the benifits of the GUARD!  Driving us all crazy.  we all turned him down flat,  that is until about 1965 when Viet Nam heated up.  Then he recruited abot 22 of us all at once.  Quite a feather in his hat.  they promoted him to seargeant.  Who knows he may have saved a bunch of his peers lives.  I have several other stories too.  To numerous to relate here.  We remained friends until his death.  I believe he was about 50 when he passed.  It was very sad, he died from MS. I watched his decline over the years. Until he was in a Nursing home.  It was there he passed away.  His brother still lives on the property where they both grew up on Cutting Warf Rd.

That was really nice Sal. I vaguely remember his brother. Wasn't he a bit younger than us.

Sal: I am glad you were there for John, He was a good friend back in the Carneros/Las Amigas days, And a good man, a real straight arrow. I should have stopped by to see him when my Mom told me he was in a bad way during one of my too-brief visits to the homeland. But I let it go, excusing myself with the thought of next time. A next time that was never to come.

Good idea Sal. We all should stop by to see old friends or at least call them as often as we can.
